As an RV owner, keeping your freshwater system clean is essential for your health and

comfort. Here’s how to effectively sanitize your system and how often you should do it.

Top Three Reasons to Sanitize Your Fresh Water System and How to Do It:

1. Health Safety: Bacteria and pathogens can multiply in stagnant water, leading to potential health risks. Regular sanitation ensures safe drinking water.

2. Taste and Odor: Water can develop unpleasant tastes and smells over time. Sanitizing keeps your water fresh for cooking and drinking.

3. System Longevity: Regular maintenance prevents buildup and protects your plumbing from corrosion, extending the lifespan of your water system.

How Often to Sanitize:

Sanitize your freshwater system at least once a year, or more frequently if:

- You haven’t used the system for an extended period.

- Do you notice any unusual odors or tastes?

- After filling the tank from a new or unknown source.

Step-by-Step Guide to Sanitizing Your RV Fresh Water System:

1. Gather Supplies:

   - 1/4 cup of unscented household bleach

   - Fresh water

   - Hose and funnel

   - Bucket or container

2. Prepare the Water Tank:

   - Completely drain your freshwater tank.

   - Clean any visible debris or sediment.

   - Turn off the power to the

tank

   - Turn bypass valves to bypass

3. Mix the Bleach Solution:

   - Combine 1/4 cup of bleach with water for every 15 gallons of tank capacity in a bucket.

4. Add the Solution to the tank:

   - Pour the bleach solution into the fresh water tank using a funnel.

5. Fill the Tank:

   - Fill the tank with fresh water.

6. Circulate the Solution:

   - Activate the water pump and open all faucets until you smell bleach at each one.

7. Let it Sit:

   - Leave the solution in the system for at least 12 hours for adequate sanitation.

8. Flush the System:

   - Drain and flush the tank and piping by refilling with fresh water and running the faucets until the bleach smell is gone.

9. Final Check:

   - Inspect for leaks and ensure the system is functioning correctly.

Following these steps and sanitizing your freshwater system regularly will ensure safe, clean water for all your RV adventures. Safe travels!
